PANDA
Pandas only live in the West Area (the middle one of the three West maps), and only after you have filed a full set of the other 18 species which are native to the same area.
- File both sexes of all 18 species in the table below on the Ark.
- Wait for the season to change. The game only checks the 18 species during a season change, so filing the last pair does nothing until the next season.
- Go to the West Area in any season. From now on it is always snowbound, and the only animals walking around on it are Pandas, in the north part of the map.

STAG BEETLE
Male Stag Beetles come from one small patch of Flora Jam. The red box on the map below is that patch: just south of the Beastman warp at the center of the maze.

- Traps set inside the box catch Stag Beetles every time. Anywhere else in Flora Jam a trap catches nothing.
- Camping inside the box without a Disposable Tent: 39.8% of camps get a Stag Beetle ambush. Camping anywhere else in Flora Jam gets you its special monsters (Gorillin, Gifrappe, Dalilulelo) instead.
- Scenarios A and B: herds of 1–6, about 10 in 16 of them ♀, so you get both sexes here.
- Scenario C: herds of 1–12, all ♂, and traps only give ♂. Up to 4 males enter each battle.
The ♀ in scenarios A and C is Nightshade, Kevin's stag beetle, a one-time gift at the Rose Garden's garden office. After Kevin's phone call, talk to him and bring him Bloodberries (from Flora Jam) before winter 1996. You need a free cargo slot.
SWALLOW
Swallows nest in Swallom, the cave.
| How | Where | When |
|---|---|---|
| Trap | 1F, section 2 | Any season, any scenario. 66.4% Swallow, otherwise Owl. |
| Walking herds | 1F (both sections) and B1 | Summer only, herds of 1–16 |
| Camp ambush | 1F (both sections) and B1 | Summer only, 33.2% per camp |
- The 1F section 2 trap is the easy route: it ignores both the season and the rat rule below.
- Scenarios A and B: the swallows come every summer.
- Scenario C: Swallom has a rat problem. Summer swallows only show up once you have fought 16 Rat battles. Until then, summer gives you Rats instead.
The rats (scenario C)
- Each battle with a Rat herd counts one, whatever you do in it. It counts battles, not rats.
- Do all 16 in one visit. Walking into Swallom from outside resets an unfinished count to zero. Moving between floors or camping does not. Once you reach 16 it stays there for good.
- Rats spawn on B1 whenever the swallows aren't there. On 1F section 1 they only spawn if you came in from B1 or from section 2's left passage.
- The new state is read when a floor loads, so after the 16th battle leave the floor and come back.
- A cave dweller says it takes "a good 20 or so". The script counts 16.
Other Swallows
- The auction sometimes has Swallow lots.
- A Round Egg (from ripping a Swallow) hatches into a Swallow 87.5% of the time at the OzPort egg centre, which closes in summer 1997.
- The swallows flying over the north West map in autumn are scenery. You can't fight or catch them.
WHALE
You get one chance at a Whale per season.
- It waits in the N West Area. Whales are not present in Autumn.
- It sits on the north edge of the map, a little east of the middle. It doesn't look like an animal: it looks like a piece of the map, an island.
- Loading the map uses up that season's chance. Leave without catching it and it's gone until the next season.
- While the Whale is on the map, no other herds spawn there.
What enters the battle depends on the season you find it in. Spring gives the best odds of a ♀:
| Season | Chance | Herd size | Enters the battle |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spring | 12.5% | 1 | ♂ 1 |
| 25% | 2 | ♂ 1 | |
| 25% | 2 | ♂ 0–1, ♀ 0–1 | |
| 18.75% | 1–4 | ♂ 0–1, ♀ 0–1 | |
| 18.75% | 1–4 | ♂ 0–1, ♀ 0–2 | |
| Summer | 50% | 1 | ♂ 1 |
| 25% | 2 | ♂ 1 | |
| 25% | 2 | ♂ 0–1, ♀ 0–1 | |
| Winter | 87.5% | 1 | ♂ 1 |
| 6.25% | 2 | ♂ 1 | |
| 6.25% | 2 | ♂ 0–1, ♀ 0–1 |
